Home to the world’s largest pre-Holocaust Jewish community and ancestral land for many US Jews, the community was decimated by Nazi Germany. While 90% of the Jewish population perished in the Holocaust, and more died during the 1950’s pogroms, Polish Jewry has seen a renaissance since the fall of communism.
Your visit will include stops at notorious extermination camps and visits to memorial sites in the capital city of Warsaw, rebuilt after the war. You will explore castles, museums and historical architecture in the medieval city of Krakow, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Meet with Poland’s new Jews who have rediscovered their Jewish heritage, interact with leaders in the community, stop at the new Museum of History of Polish Jews, a tribute to the vibrant Jewish community that flourished in Poland for a thousand years, until its destruction.
